I saw a few people mentioning that Tumblr is a little confusing so I want to help. I actually made this blog post a bit ago and thought I should share sammysjewels.blogspot.com/2014/09/marketing-on-tumblr-for-online-shops.htmlTumblr is very heavily image based. Picture posts with only a sentance or so of text are the most likely to get reblogged, so keep that in mind when posting. I have personally found Tumblr to be my greatest source of traffic, but your popularity will greatly depend on the niche you market to and it may not be helpful for everyone.

I now have some idea what Tumblr is and how to use it. Thanks for sharing. Now ...do I want to add another form of social networking to my portfolio? Do I have time? eeek! So much to consider.

Have you tried messaging staff for Tumblr? Sometimes they lock accounts for the silliest 'safety' reasons. I got locked out of my account because I messed up my HTML and it read as a virus and Tumblr was trying to protect me lol

I really like how easy Tumblr was to set up and get started and how my page looks, even though it might be considered a bit plain. Tumblr is probably ideal for those items marketable to teens and twentysomethings (I've got some), but quite a few of my items are maybe for someone 35+ who may be less likely to use that site. LOL - maybe I just need to market my shop on Tumblr as a great place to get gift ideas for parents. Wonder if my style of posts have too much text to work on Tumblr. Would love some feedback on the look and post style from anyone who has some experience with what does well there.
I think I understand the reblogging, but kind of like the idea of a good old fashioned comment at the bottom of a post. I did not realize about scheduling posts. LOVE that option! Do other sites have that feature? I have been trying to think of how I might stay on top of making regular posts happen.
I am trying to set myself up on Blogger and move some posts over. Thought of maybe experimenting with posting both places to see if one works better than another. I have to say, so far setting that up has been a bit more difficult than Tumblr was. I don't really understand some of the components, but will figure it out.
Thanks for the writeup Samson.

Thanks for the writeup Samson. just starting out on Tumblr - but your right about it being a younger market but i think your idea of using it to promote gift ideas is great! i have noticed photo sets get more attention than anything else - but ive only had it a few weeks so im not an expert!
