Hello forum
I know that some people are new to social media; and some can find it a little daunting but it really isn't that difficult (i promise) social media is an amazing tool when selling online; well i would say that wouldn't i! i'm a geek after all.
I studied a media degree & graduated in 2005 just as youtube & my space were finding their feet - and the change that occurred was instantaneous our big wide world became a lot smaller over night. my tutor once said (when asked if you tube was a viable way for film makers to expose their work) media is constantly changing & innovating; it never stands still & you need to keep up with it, today its youtube who knows whats around the corner!... put simply yes; use it!
so how can social media will help your shop (2 main factors) 1. keeping customers up to date with new stock - increase in repeat customers 2. reaching potential customers - people who have never heard of etsy
of course if your SEO is spot on you would still be found by these people - but social networking (without getting to technical here) improves your google indexing & therefor your visibility/SEO
so if you need help choosing a social media platform
setting up an account on any social media platform
finding a new platform
tips on running/managing your account
or any social media related questions please post them here
I or someone will come along & help

Great job!
I am currently on facebook, twitter, google+, instagram and pinterest.
I always advice people to stick to one or two platforms and do them well, rather than having a finger in them all doing them badly.
I personally find facebook more rewarding, but I haven't generated any sales from it. I also use twitter regularly, and HAVE generated sales from it. My google+ is lacking, but I am slowly starting to get more used to it. I haven't touched my instagram. I thought it was best to have an account. I am yet to do anything with it.
So any instagram stuff would be welcomed for me!

My google+ is lacking, but I am slowly starting to get more used to it. I haven't touched my instagram. I thought it was best to have an account. I am yet to do anything with it. So any instagram stuff would be welcomed for me! you had to pick the one im working out for myself (i gave up on google +) DO NOT USE ANY APPS designed to allow you to use instagram off a pc. use it only from your phone - instagram penalise you by making you're #'s invisible to others- so no reach. reserving your shops name was a great 1st step i read this article www.socialmediaexaminer.com/instagram-for-business-tips/and am trying to implement a few things esp dont just post your work; post random things; fave random images; follow other users & always follow back what i am doing is posting pictures (1 a week) of puffy 'photoshopped' into random locations - my hope is to build a following by doing something cool fun & interesting and hopefully when they're hooked they'll come find my shop. there is no character limit with instagram so you can really go to town on the descriptions; they use the same tagging system as twitter so # everything; if your shop name is different in anyway to your instagram name make sure you include your shop name and # it links on instagram are not clickable so directions such - as you can find me on etsy - are more useful than a dead link try not to # stuff it for all the usual seo & human reader reasons but try to include the #nofilters (when posting work) basically this is shorthand on instagram for - the photo is a true & accurate description of the item i have on sale and i have not enhanced the photograph. im not sure if by following etsy (on instagram) my #etsy is more visible i have heared a few opinions on this - but i dont think it hurts Only using it on my iphone. So all good there. Over night I had 14 followers. So my little uploading session has paid off. I find posting pics of cats help. LOL Once I figured it out, it is basically a picture version of twitter. So for me, easily enough to do and understand now. Shame that links do not work. Lets see if I get any views from instagram on my stats.

now if only i wasn't allergic & had access to cats i could dress them up as avengers.... the world would melt! LOL I am personally opposed to putting clothes on cats. Except for walking jackets, of course. I have a stylish snow leopard print for my white cat and a lovely orange/black tiger stripe for my orange (ginger) tabby. We have not mastered the actual walking part yet. But they do an excellent job of playing dead when strapped in.

I am mostly clueless about anything other than FB. I have biz accounts on Twitter, Pinterest, Flickr, and Google+. The one that makes the least sense to me is Google+. But the one I'd most like to become successful at is Twitter. So, any tips for that are most welcome.

you should also tweet cat updates/pictures - the internet loves cats - and they are members of your shop now Weeeeee! I have permission from an expert to tweet photos of my cats! I rarely tweet listings from my Etsy shop. Heck, I rarely tweet. I just don't know that I have anything tweetworthy to say. I do have my blog set to automatically tweet links to new posts. I don't think I get any traffic to my blog from Twitter though. Thanks for the tips about hashtags. Those things are almost as a big a mystery to me as the circles on Google+. I will work on it. I'm pretty sure I am following everyone who has followed me. And then some.

We have not mastered the actual walking part yet. But they do an excellent job of playing dead when strapped in. Cats are funny! I love them! But as a whole I agree, animals in clothes aren't a turn on for me. But I don't mind the occasional cat wearing clothes. Sometimes they just look so darn cute and funny, and if the cat clearly doesn't mind, then it is all good. I am mostly clueless about anything other than FB. I have biz accounts on Twitter, Pinterest, Flickr, and Google+. The one that makes the least sense to me is Google+. But the one I'd most like to become successful at is Twitter. So, any tips for that are most welcome. so i assume you know the easiest way to tweet a listing is by linking twitter to your etsy & tweeting straight from the listing the key to being seen on twitter (i have found) is to follow people who may be interested in purchasing your products. basically identify your target audience - and go follow them that's easy for me - to say! i know its trickier when you sell jewelry so try following independent & large fashion magazines; follow independent bloggers/ youtubers/ fashion centric people AGAIN ALWAYS FOLLOW BACK try to post a mix; posting your items/other etsy items will get boring for avid followers; so tweet interesting articles, things that inspire you/ your work; you tube videos; funny pages; anything that you think your followers may enjoy you should also tweet cat updates/pictures - the internet loves cats - and they are members of your shop now use the # ing for keywords so is you were posting a pic of your skull bracelet = good #'s would be #jewelry #skull #braclet #gift and seasonal #'s would be #halloween #dayofthedead try & string that into an easy to read sentence; people search twitter like they do google; so someone looking for a halloween gift - would theoretically see your tweet. Everything Rhi said is right. I am on twitter, and I see so many other etsy sellers ONLY tweeting about their shops to other etsy sellers. That is just pointless and a massive waste of time.

I was thinking things like Cloud (#mycat) & i are working on some new #jewelry designs for www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PaisleyLizardDesigns inc a picture of cloud playing with some type of string or beads - or something cat friendly but shop/craft related not all day every day - but randomly just to connect with people gain followers & hopefully customers Sounds like a solid plan. I don't actually have as many photos of my cats as some other crazy cat ladies. But I do have a few where they are "helping" me create. Mostly, they are napping. 'cause, they're cats.
